The Twilight Stakes were around the corner and David had finally been glad that Livin' The Jazz would get a chance to prove what he had. His brother Jazzaway had retired off the tracks to start his stud career next year and Jax was going one more year to racing. The turf colt was in for a hard race with Ode to Glory, Bella Luna, and Infinite Warcry among the ranks in this race. The black roan stallion trotted out onto the turf with a prance in his walk. To join them was a turf daughter to Radiance named The Apathy who would be ridden by Carlos Sanchez. Nature Blues acquired her from a forgotten stables that had trained her for the turf surfaces instead of the favorite Dirt surface, Radiance foals acquired.
Both jockey's greeted each other with a wave of their hands and started their horses in a start position. "Given that our horses are milers how about we take them to the halfway pole and then just trot them the rest of the way?" David suggested with an agreement head nod from Carlos. The two were off in a gallop Jax slowing down as he was a closer. Comet was more of a preceder, she took her paces easy and would await for Jax to pull forward. Both horses soon came neck and neck Jax obviously tested the filly moving farther from the rails the two were collided side by side. "Come on Bonita, let's go!" Carlos said to Apathy setting her free from the gallop to a full sprint.
Jax saved his energy for the last minute until he broke free striding through with a full shot coming along the outside at the fastest speed he could. Jax and Comet were close when Jax won by a nose to Comet by far. David smiled towards the effort and took off his goggles. "That was a good run wasn't it Jax? My boy here is headed for the Twilight Stakes." Patting the stallion on the neck. Carlos shook his head wisely, "Yes Comet here has potential she is just waiting for the right moment to strike, you may be impressed, her sister did win a leg of the triple tiara." He said back with a laugh. The two headed back to the stalls after walking off their good hard work.
